US Central

ASIFA/Central is the Midwest USA Chapter of ASIFA, the International Animation Association (l’Association Internationale du Film d’Animation). Founded in France by a group of professional animators and chartered by UNESCO in 1960, ASIFA’s goal is to encourage the art of animation and further international understanding and goodwill through the medium of the animated film. ASIFA/Central was founded in Chicago, Illinois, in 1975 and has involved many of the professional and independent animators in the Midwest USA.

ASIFA/Central was the first ASIFA chapter to publish an ASIFA webpage. The award winning web site featured articles from past newsletters, a members page and gallery, and general information about ASIFA Central. Today we have an open Facebook Group, members-only Yahoo Group and YouTube Channel. Because of our wide geographical spread, ASIFA/Central has evolved from its’ original emphasis on meetings and screenings to a more virtual organization. We sponsor an annual midwest animator’s retreat, where we do hand’s on workshops for our members, we hold International Animation Day Screenings, offer other special events, and participate in the children’s Animation Workshop Group. We also sometimes do potlucks, square dances, karaoke parties, and screenings of member films. We are a fun-loving group of animators and animation fans. We love animation, we love animation history, and we look forward to the future of animation.
