Cartoombria 1999
International Animation Exhibition Harmonies: Images and Sound Stories Mr. Moreno Barboni (coordinator), Mr. Ferruccio Giromini and Ms. Maria Grazia Mattei, all members of the Artistic Committee of Cartoombria'99- International Animation Exhibition, are very pleased to present the fifth edition of the event which is promoted and organised by Fondazione Umbria Spettacolo and Region of Umbria, with the support of Province of Perugia, Town Council of Perugia, University for Foreigners of Perugia and the Department of Arts of the Presidency of the Italian Council of Ministers. Cartoombria'99 will take place in Perugia, from December 2 to 5 1999, in the various historical halls of the Rocca Paolina Exhibition Centre. Located in the centre town, the Rocca Paolina is a sixteenth century fortress whose historical halls are regularly used as venue for art exhibitions. For Cartoombria 1999 the same halls are the locations for the display of a multimedia setting. For a coherent follow-up with the general guidelines of the program of last year, Cartoombria '99 stresses on digital animation and more precisely on the relationship between music and animated images. The overall program ranges over from classical examples to new interactive frontiers in animation. Works in program explore the leading role of music in terms of consistent merging between the visual and the musical level in animation. Therefore all sections develop both the concept of synergy between the visual and the sound language and the progress implemented in music video, credits and ads, games and computer art, media animation on multimedia and web. The program is also dedicated to animation in real time, to motion capture systems with their several applications based on music and dance and also to interactive installations. Within the thematic edition, Cartoombria 1999 presents eventually the most interesting and innovative works exhibited at Siggraph Festival and also recent films created by young authors from national and international animation schools. As last year, Cartoombria'99 does not advertise any competition and includes retrospectives, exhibits, live performances and more broad sections dedicated to workshops, meetings, conferences, special guests and events. The objective of the Festival is to address to the general audience, to the young public familiar with animation through games and internet and also to students and scholars mostly interested in the relationship between the historical view and the new technological languages in animation.
