VIVE LA FRANCE ! Conversations and correspondance took place between ASIFA and AFCA, the French Animated Film Association, for re-establishing close relations (the French group was originally created within ASIFA). An Extraordinary General Assembly was held on that issue on the 28th of June. It decided, with a strong majority, to resume ties with ASIFA. From now on, besides national members, AFCA will have international members, with new fees for the central treasury, under the denomination AFCA-ASIFA France. This is great news. Welcome to AFCA-ASIFA France! >>>>>New ASIFA group in Finland ASIFA's regional structure in the five Nordic and three Baltic countries is changing. ASIFA Nordic that covered all the eight countries was terminated last autumn and now we are building new national groups instead. The reason for termination of ASIFA Nordic was a practical one, it was difficult to run a group in eight different countries. Whereas it is possible to get some support for national groups, it was impossible for an regional international body. Also the collection of the membership fees across the borders was both expensive and difficult. In the region there were also some national animators' associations without ASIFA contacs, a situation that is not desirable. So the decision was to build up ASIFA work on national base. ASIFA Finland was established in late May and applied immediately a status as an ASIFA national group. It will work closely together with Animaatioklinikka (Animation Clinic), which is the national animators' association in Finland. In a small country there is no place for waste of the limited resources. ASIFA Finland has already got a lot of new members, especially among the younger generation of animators. The board members of ASIFA Finland are: - Laura Neuvonen, - Kaisa Penttilä, - Mikko Vormala - Heikki Jokinen. The contact person is Heikki Jokinen, who also worked as a last president of the late ASIFA Nordic. He is also still responsible for the general ASIFA contacts in the Nordic and Baltic region. Part 3 features a collection of works by 16 other filmmakers from 1940 - 1999 who were inspired or influenced by Fischinger, or who have also explored the use of sound, music, and abstraction. I'm excited to be included in this part of the program! The event opens in New York at the Museum of Modern Art, July 6-9 , and then goes to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art July 27-30.
