THE LIFE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD TO BORDO DOVNIKOVIC In ALABAMA In October 2000, at the Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival in Birmingham, Alabama, USA, the Croatian animator Borivoj Dovnikovic Bordo, the former ASIFA Secretary General, was given the Life Achievement Award, on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of his film career and, in the same time, 50 years of modern Zagreb animation.
Bordo gave a guest performance with three programmes: a selection of his animated films, a selection of films of the Zagreb Film studios, and "The Big Meeting", the first Croatian/Yugoslav independent cartoon film (in its realization in 1950/51 Bordo took part). In the same time, he and Vesna Dovnikovic, the new ASIFA Secretary General, served on the Festival Jury for short film. The Sidewalk Festival awarded Bordo with the support of the American Film Institute, and this is what was said in the official statement: "The American Film Institute congratulates the Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival for its dedication to independent filmmaking and for its vision to award master animator Borivoj Dovnikovic - Bordo its Life Achievement Award in the year 2000.
