>>> ASIFA Board Meetings in Annecy ASIFA / Festival Information System At the ASIFA Board Meetings in Annecy, the new ASIFA Board finally decided on a new strategy to organise ASIFA's relation with International Animation Festivals. After the former ASIFA Board had given up the out-dated "Patronage System" at the Meetings in Zagreb 1998, several approaches had been made to change ASIFA's strategy fundamentally. Now important steps for a concrete new way of cooperation with festivals have been made. The most important aspects of the new system are: > ASIFA opens up to much more than just the five 'traditional ASIFA festivals', and by this officially acknowledges the quality of several, partly new festivals. > In order to protect the interests of both animators and festival organizers, the document "Conditions for International Animation Festivals to be listed in ASIFA's media" was decided. In this document ASIFA defines the quality standards, which should be fulfilled to be officially recognized by ASIFA. > In the ASIFA - Festival Information System those festivals having passed the mentioned quality standards will be described according to 19 different aspects. The visitor of ASIFA.NET then may decide on her/his own, which of these events might be the most appropriate for her/him. In order to specially highlight those festivals, which by their special support to ASIFA help our organisation to exist and to grow, the installation of the term ASIFA Partner Festival was proposed, details are under discussion and decisions will be made soon. All informations about the ASIFA Festival Information System and about ASIFA Partner Festivals will be published in the [FESTIVAL ZONE] on ASIFA.NET. ASIFA Open Meeting On the 6th June 2001, a great number of international ASIFA Members and representatives of national groups attended the Open Meeting. In total, sixteen countries (regions) participated, discussions were centered around improving means of exisiting communication systems between groupings and interesting prospects of international exchanges were brought out. Further details about the ASIFA Board Meetings and about decisions being made will be published in the [INFO ZONE]. >>>>> ASIFA Workshop Group Meeting in Annecy > New AWG Executive Board: During the AWG meeting in Annecy, the new Executive Board was elected as follows: President: Sayoko Kinoshita (Japan) Vice-president: John Serpentelli (USA) General Secretary: Wendy Jackson Hall (USA) Treasurer: Nicole Salomon (France) > AWG - ANNECY 2001 Official Programme "ASIFA Workshop Group Celebrates 30 Years of A.A.A." From ASIFA Finland >>>>> Nordic Light postponed to December Nordic Light is a traditional very much non-formal gathering of Nordic and Baltic animators, who every summer are spending some days watching new films and discussing on what ever is intresting. The event has been going on annually since 1986, usually in summer, touring from one to another of the five Nordic and three Baltic countries. There is no formal organisation behind it, but every time some people are willing to organise it. Number of participants is varying from some tens to one hundred. This years Nordic Light festival, 16th in order, planned to take place in Sweden during this summer, has been postponed. The festival will instead be taking place in december in Stockholm, in cooperation with The Swedish Association for Animated Film (FFAF) and The Swedish Filminstitute. The event will be taking place at Filmhuset (Filmhouse) in central Stockholm, during the same weekend as FFAF arranges the annual screening of newly produced swedish animation.
