SEPTEMBER 11 CATASTROPHE

The terrible terrorist attacks against humanity on 11th september 2001 indeed have changed the world, have changed our thinking and startled our emotions.
Many ASIFA members have sent messages expressing their deep consternation and their sympathy with the innocent victims, their relatives and friends.

Being an international organisation, based on the friendship between artists from different countries, cultures and religions, we also feel obliged to express our worries about the future of our planet.
ASIFA.NET publishes here the statements from two prominent ASIFA members - David Ehrlich (USA) and Nourredin Zarrinkelk (Iran) - expressing what many of us may think and feel in these days.
Please visit also the homepage indicated below (opened by the American Friends Service Committee) and consider signing and distributing the petition to be found at:

USVI International Animated Film Festival © -"Animation in Paradise" - St. Thomas, USVI

Festival Officials Rob and Annie West, announced today that due to the events on September 11, in New York and Washington D.C., and the rash of cancellations for travel worldwide that the Festival has been postponed until December 2002. Exact dates have not been set, pending consultation with Festival Sponsors and the members of the VI Hotel Association. The Wests were reluctant to make the decision to postpone based on their belief for the need for Americans to get back to normal. Major sponsorship withdrawal and the reluctance of most Americans to get back in the air prompted today's announcement. The Wests, having "put too much time and effort into the project to let it die" are heading stateside to rally the big sponsors for next year's event.
" No one could have foreseen this tragedy," said Rob West, the Festival Director. "After allowing for a time of healing, we believe people will embrace this event with even more enthusiasm. The Virgin Islands is a perfect venue for a promotion such as this and we are optimistic for next year's success."

Sponsors who participated in this year's plans will receive all the benefits of their contract without additional monetary contribution. The Children's Workshop of the Festival was successfully completed. The video is in the production stage and will be released shortly. The Wests plan to release that, and some other children's programs to the Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School for a "Children's Program" in the school auditorium. As originally planned for festival screening, this program will be free of charge.
