| ASIFA France - AFCA celebrates 30 years anniversary, and more..... |
|
AFCA celebrated its 30th anniversary
The French Animated Film Association (AFCA) was founded in 1971 under the
name of ASIFA France. It broke its links with ASIFA "international" in 1974,
and has been operating as AFCA from then on. But since 2000, AFCA offers its
members the possibiliy of joining ASIFA as well (the group "AFCA-ASIFA
France" had 57 members in 2001). AFCA's 30th anniversary celebration could not take place in 2001, but last February, on the 14th (Valentine's Day !), AFCA organized a 2h30 evening film performance, focussed on the themes of birthdays, parties and love. More than 400 people attended this event to celebrate the love of animation together. Iranian films in France Every term, AFCA proposes an animated film programme whose circulation it assumes everywhere in France, mainly in movie theaters and festivals. After organizing "tournées" of Canadian, French, Portuguese and Dutch films, it is now the turn of Iranian films to tour through France (from January 15th to April 15th). « Meeting Iranian animation » is an animated film programme from Kanoon, the Iranian Institue for Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults. It consists of five author shorts, whose original design and narrative content are far from underestimating its young audience... Both films and dates of the "tournée" are to be consulted on AFCA's website: www.afca.asso.fr (in French). The Cesars
The French "Oscars", called "Cesars", have rewarded Florence Miailhe's pastel animated film "On the First Sunday of August" (Au premier dimanche d'août) in the short film category. This award adds up to a long list of numerous other prizes awarded in many festivals, such as, for example, the "Grand Prix" at the French Animated Film Festival at Auch (South-West of France) in 2001. Disneyland in Paris s The public is invited to discover behind the scenes of a cartoon studio in the new Disneyland Park next to Paris, called "Disney Studio", which was opened on March 16th. It helps understanding how characters are set in motion and "interactive animation desks" even allow people to make their first steps in this art. Information is provided in several languages on www.disneylandparis.com. This event was accompanied by a screening of the most important films by Stoyan Dukov, like "En passant", "Ga", "February". Many friends of author expressed their good wishes for eternal youth and new good films, after Prof. Boyan Biolcnev, rector of Sofia's University, had said in his opening speech the most important period of every artist were the first seventy years of his life. | ASIFA Croatia - an evening with David Ehrlich |
|
David Ehrlich, the renown American animator and professor visited
Zagreb as a member of the International Selection Committee for Zagreb
Animation Festival. ASIFA Croatia, with the support of Zagreb Film Studio organized an evening with David for the members of ASIFA Croatia, but also for the filmmakers and especially students of animation. The interest was so big that there was not enough seats for all the people who wanted to attend the event. The program was composed of films by David Ehrlich and some American independent animators (Joanna Priestley, Bill Plympton, George Griffin, Sarah Petty, Karen Aqua and Sally Cruikshank). A very interesting discussion about David's work and American independent animation followed. | Hiroshima Festival 2002 - news from Festival Bulletin Nr.1 |
|
Nicole Salomon Was Appointed International Honorary President! I feel extremely honoured to serve as the Honorary President of Hiroshima Festival 2002. Hiroshima Festival is a great event for the Art of Animation. Since it started in 1985, thanks to the enthusiastic efforts of Renzo Kinoshita and several great Japanese artists in Animation, Hiroshima Festival has developed the initial project along its 8 editions. Its beautiful motto "Love and Peace" has been faithfully followed and it is what Humanity needs, in our violent period of time, for the 21st century. With Animation, the most wonderful artistic medium for communication and understanding between peoples, Hiroshima Festival has built strong links between Asia and other continents. I encourage all artists in Animation to participate in Hiroshima Festival 2002 by entering their works or attending personally. They can be certain to get great appreciation and friendly welcome from the City of Hiroshima and its citizens. Nicole Salomon Get more information at the Hiroshima Festival Online Bulletin: |
