HOLLYWOOD, February 22, 2000; Chuck Jones, legendary animation director and
artist, best known for his work on the Warner Bros. classic Looney Tunes cartoon series,
died today of congestive heart failure. |

Abi Feijo (Portugal), ASIFA President since ASIFA elections
in Ottawa 2000, has resigned from his position for private motives.

| Zagreb Festival has a new artistic director |

The World Animation Festival
in Zagreb, after Annecy the oldest major animation festival, was founded
in 1972, and so celebrates its 30 years anniversary (15th edition) in
2002.David Ehrlich, long time ASIFA Board member, is working for the festival in the selection jury and has spoken with the new artistic director Midhat Ajanovic. | ASIFA Japan cooperates with French Animation Festival in Tokyo |

We are especially delighted that Michel Ocelot is invited to visit Tokyo to show his films "Princes et Princesses", "Kirikou et la sorcière", "Les 3 inventeurs" and "La Légende du pauvre bossu". Also, on March 10th, he will be talking with Isao Takahata after the screening. Prescott Wright, who honored Williams by including his work in several of the Tournee of Animation shows in the 1970's and early 80's, will introduce the program. |

QAS's unique environment
requires unique individuals. Candidates will have an in-depth understanding
and appreciation of the art, craft, and history of animation, as well
as an appreciation of the film aesthetic. They will be able to work
independently, as well as cooperatively as a part of a team, will have
excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, be available
to work some evenings and weekends, and have good computer skills (QAS
is a Macintosh based centre). The preferred candidate will be a working
animator or artist. Previous experience in a non-profit artist-run
centre would be an asset.Applications must include a current resumé and 3 references, as well as a 200 to 600 word essay on the importance of animation as a media art form within the context of film/video/digital convergence. This will allow us to evaluate the applicants attitude toward animation, art, and film, as well as their writing skill level. ------------------------- Film Production Coordinator Working in co-operation with the Board of Directors, Staff, Committees, and Volunteers, the Film Production Coordinator will be committed to assisting members with all film animation production concerns. They will also be responsible for maintenance of operations, production, programming, and library film and video equipment, equipment grant writing and reporting, film equipment purchases and inventory, equipment booking, and technical assistance for courses, workshops and screening events. QAS equipment holdings include Oxberry animation stands (16mm and 35mm), pencil test systems (Lunchbox Synch, Take_2, and S-VHS), and Intercine editing bench. Annual wage: $15,000.00 This is a two year contract, with possibility of renewal. Part time postion. The Department of Cinema at San Francisco State
University invites applications for a tenure-track position
as Assistant Professor in Animation , who will also coordinate
our animation program. Successful candidates should possess an MFA
or equivalent, teaching experience at the university level, a body
of independent work and strength in both filmmaking skills and current
technologies. The candidate should be an animation artist with
personal vision who will give innovative direction and focus
to the Department's animation emphasis, which exists within a strong
program of independent film and new media production. The candidate
should have a working knowledge of animation history and criticism, and
leadership experience in order to coordinate our animation curriculum
with live action, with related areas in the arts, and with bay area animation
groups like ASIFA, PIXAR and ILM. One of 8 departments in the College of Creative Arts, the Cinema Department has 17 full time tenure-track faculty, together with some 30 part-time/associate faculty, serving some 800 film students. Committed to the teaching of production and studies as a common enterprise, we offer a general BA degree in Cinema, an MA in Cinema Studies, and an MFA in Cinema, and a specialized animation emphasis open to both graduate and undergraduate students.
