 ANIMA MUNDI 2002 : July 2002 : 10 years anniversary

ANIMA MUNDI, the biggest and most important Animation Festival in Brazil celebrates this year its 10 years anniversary and will take place in
  • Rio de Janeiro: 12 - 21 July 2002

  • Sao Paolo: 24-28 July 2002


  • The team of directors are the four animation artists (!) Lea Zagury, Cesar Coelho, Aida Queirós and Marcos Magalhães.
    Since ASIFA has finished the former "ASIFA Festival Patronage System" also Anima Mundi is on ASIFA's festival list, therefor ASIFA.NET will try to specially promote the event.

      Zagreb Festival : June 2002 : 30 years anniversary

    The Zagreb Animation Festival celebrates its 30 years anniversary in June 2002.

    As this festival is one of the most helpful partners to ASIFA, we wish to specially promote the event.

    CHUCK JONES tribute at UCLA - May 11!
    7:30pm, at the James Bridges Theater (formerly Melnitz Theater)

    L.A. area fans - DON'T MISS THIS ONE!!
    The UCLA Film and Television Archive salutes the late, great Chuck Jones, creator of the Road Runner, Wile E. Coyote, Pepe Le Pew, Inki and Marvin Martian with a panel of distinguished guests who will present their favorite Chuck Jones titles, drawing primarily from the extensive holdings at the UCLA Archive.

    The program, entitled "Thank you Mr. Jones", will show mostly 35mm nitrate Technicolor prints!


    The guests are:
    Linda Jones Clough - daughter of Dorothy and Chuck Jones, who will show:
    •BULLY FOR BUGS (1953), •FAST AND FURRY-OUS (1949) and •NOW HEAR THIS (1963)
    Bob Kurtz - Founder of Kurtz & Friends animation studio, creator of Cool Cat, and a Roger Ramjet animator, who will present:
    •THE DOVER BOYS AT PIMENTO UNIVERSITY (1942), •THE SCARLET PUMPERNICKEL (1950) and •THE RABBIT OF SEVILLE (1950)
    Dan McLaughlin - Professor/Chair of the Animation Workshop at UCLA, who selected:
    •FOR SCENT-IMENTAL REASONS (1949), and •THE NIGHT WATCHMAN (1938)
    Tom Sito - Animation Director (OSMOSIS JONES) who picked:
    •THE DRAFT HORSE (1942) and •NAUGHTY BUT MICE (1939)

      ASIFA-US-Northwest Presents: The Art of Stop-Motion Animation

    An Evening with Animator Teresa Drilling

    Emmy-award-winning animator Teresa Drilling has seen -and animated-it all. In this special animation lecture/screening event, Teresa Drilling will "expose" the fascinating world of stop-motion animation, showing her animated work and demonstrating techniques by animating live in front of the audience. Clips will include scenes from the puppet-animated feature film, "Chicken Run" for which she was a key animator under the direction of Peter Lord and Nick Park at Aardman Animations in Bristol, U.K. Also in the program will be TV spots and commercials created at Will Vinton Studios in Portland, Oregon, where for the past 14 years, Drilling has worked on such projects as the California Raisins campaign, Sesame Street's "Cecille the Ball," "A Claymation Christmas Celebration," and many memorable commercials for Kelloggs, Clorox, Merck, Tropicana, Nissan, Chilis Restaurants and other brands.

      Animation in Germany an animator' directory by Jeanpaul Goergen 

    Jeanpaul Goergen, film historian and specialist for animation in Germany, has made the research for a German animators directory, published by DIAF (German Institute for Animated Film) in Dreseden.

    The booklet contains around 200 addresses of animation filmmakers and studios, together with the addresses, short biographies and full filmographies, additionally color plates and addresses and short descriptions of animation schools in Germany.

     Multiple media performance by Paul&Menno de Nooijer

    The famous animation film artists Paul & Menno de Nooijer have presented their performance NASPEL (aftermath) on April 11 2002 at the deSingel theatre in Antwerp, Belgium.

     The Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design 2002 Grad Show

    The Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design 2002 Grad Show opens on Saturday, May 4th and runs until May 17th, at 1399 Johnston St. on Granville Island in Vancouver, BC.


    Animation and Integrated Media works are screening on an ongoing basis in the South Building Lecture Theater, room 328. The Animation program will screen daily at 12:00pm, and the Integrated Media program will follow it at 1:30pm. Animation students are exhibiting storyboards, background drawings, puppets, etc., in the North Building, room 243.

    In addition to the institute-wide show, the Animation and Integrated Media programs will be screened on four consecutive evenings:

     ANIFEST 2002 - Festival of Animated Films Trebon, Czech Republic

    AniFest 2002 - 1st year of festival of animated films will take place from May 14th to May 19th in Trebon, Southern Bohemia, Czech Republic.
    Main Program of this year has two sections: Competition of Czech animated films, which were produced during the decade of 1991 to 2001 and Non-Competetive Retrospective of Czech and international animated works.

    THE FESTIVAL OF ANIMATED FILMS FOR ALL AGE
    Daily from 10:00 a.m. till 10:00 p.m. there are screenings. The mornings are reserved mainly for small children, afternoons are dedicated to the Competition. The Grown-ups will enjoy late evening hours when short films will be screened as well as animated long metrages, which are more suitable for preffered by adults. The screenings will be organized in: Cinema Svetozor, Loutkove divadlo (Puppet Theatre), Lazne Aurora kinosal (Spa Aurora Cinema Hall) and Divadlo J. K. Tyla ( J. K. Tyl Theatre).


    Competition
    Over 160 films enrolled this year. The categories of this year's Competition are:
  • Animated Films up to 5 min
  • Animated Films from 5 to 30 min
  • Animated Films for Children
  • Animated Commercials, Animated Musical Videoclips, Animated Spots, Animated Intros,
  • Student Animated Films

    Retrospective
    Along with the short films from Jiri Trnka's workshop (in memory of 90 years anniversary of his birthday this year) and other Czech animated works, there is a program of international animated films from Belgium, Croatia, Finland, Iran, Italy, Slovenia and Slovakia.

    ALL ENTRIES ARE FOR FREE !!!
    The Patrons of AniFest 2002 are: PhDr. Vladimir Spidla, Vice-chairman Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Labour and Social Affairs of Czech Republic and Pavel Dostal, Minister of Culture of Czech Republic. The festival is organized in financial support of State Fund for the Support and Development of Czech Cinematography.

    The Organizer of the Festival is CORONA company, in cooperation with Trebon Municipality.
